LinkedIn in the  ΑΙ fever

Everyone’s joining the dance floor, and we expect more and more companies to start dancing along with AI, integrating it into their products. Our beloved LinkedIn announced a series of AI-powered tools for recruiting and marketing a few days ago. These tools leverage OpenAI’s AI models since…Microsoft.

Let’s take a look at them, one by one.

Recruiter 2024: Allows you to use natural language to search for top talent, e.g., “I want to hire a senior growth marketing leader.”

Learn with AI: This is an AI chatbot that will provide real-time advice and tailored content recommendations personalized for each learner.

Accelerate for Campaign Manager: By simply providing a URL, Accelerate will create an end-to-end campaign for you within 5 minutes (including creatives, according to LinkedIn) and automatic optimizations to reach the right audience. Of course, you can make adjustments before publishing.

Sales Navigator: Gets new AI features, such as AI-assisted search and AccountIQ, which make lead prospecting and account research more effective.

These tools are a win-win for both job seekers and recruiters. They are also free.

Canva and the new Magic Studio

Our dear Canva announced Magic Studio, which has a range of AI features.

Let’s see what it offers:

  • Magic Media: Allows you to create videos up to 18″ long with simple text prompts or images. This feature is available thanks to its collaboration with Runway.
  • ΑΙ Photo Editing: Similar to Photoshop’s Generative Fill.
  • Magic Write: Powered by OpenAI, you give it a prompt and it writes the copy you want.
  • Auto Translations: Does exactly what the name implies and supports 134 languages.

The incredibly interesting thing is that Canva created a $200 million fund to pay creators whose work it has used in training its AI models. Additionally, following Adobe’s model, it provides compensation to enterprises in case copyright issues arise.

Canva is once again doing what it’s good at. It automates and makes design tasks accessible, allowing anyone to become a creator.

Side note: As you may have noticed, all companies are rushing to add AI features to their tools/products. Many would say it’s expected, and we’re among them.

However, we find it incredibly interesting that this goes against OpenAI’s plans, which envisioned ChatGPT with its plugins becoming the new App Store and the hub through which everyone would utilize AI. But it seems that users ultimately prefer to use the tools they already knew and used, enhanced with AI, rather than learning completely new ones. Even if their favorite tools offered a plugin on ChatGPT, like Canva for example, the experience it offers is not the same, and that counts for a lot.

  3. Google’s new Pixel 8 has AI features. Why does this interest us? Beyond the obvious, according to the announcement, the capabilities it will offer in photo and video editing range from amazing to dystopian. We believe that as these capabilities for perfect photos become more widespread, the need/preference for authenticity will also increase. In other news from Google Assistant will receive a significant AI upgrade as it will be integrated with Bard. This upgrade will concern mobile devices. Google’s goal is to offer a more personalized and intelligent assistant and the best possible UX.

  5. Asana now has AI features. It’s a general integration of AI within the product.
  6. AI companies are starting to express their interest in creating AI chips. OpenAI  and Microsoft have made relevant statements, with the latter planning to launch it next month. It’s a clear shift towards self-management of the supply chain and avoiding dependence on third-party companies like Nvidia, which, thanks to its AI chips, is the big winner of the industry so far.

Learning Bytes 🧐

  1. Yuval Noah Harari discusses with DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleyman how ΑΙ will affect our immediate and indirect future, whether technology can be controlled, and whether it has agency (intentional action). It’s a pretty interesting conversation that we recommend you listen to.

  2. About a month ago, there was a debate  about pausing AI development. Scott Alexander does a great summary of what was said and what the bottom line is.

  3. A week after Tom Hanks’ statements about a deepfake ad in which his image and voice were used, MrBeast is the next celebrity/influencer/creator on a list that will probably be long.
